The Head of Legal Policy is a key member of the Commission’s highly effective Legal Senior Management Team. They lead the team responsible for advising on key operational projects, new policy proposals and new and revised guidance for charities. The role represents a unique opportunity for a qualified lawyer to play a key role in shaping the legal and regulatory framework for charities in England and Wales.

Job description

The Head of Legal Policy is responsible for leading, managing and co-ordinating the Legal Policy team’s work, which includes:

• Providing authoritative legal advice to support the development of new and revised guidance for charities;
• Assessing and engaging with developments affecting charities, including by commenting on relevant government consultations, policy proposals and draft legislation;
• Ensuring that the Commission’s regulatory policy approach and operational projects are informed by and developed in accordance with the legal framework; and
• Representing the Commission at meetings with government departments and other external stakeholders.

The Head of Legal Policy will be expected to demonstrate a thorough understanding of charity, trust and public law, and to provide strong and visible leadership through the Legal Senior Leadership Team.

They should be capable of advising colleagues at the most senior levels within the Commission, including at Board and Board committee meetings.
