A qualified lawyer, preferably with charity experience, who can review and advise on contracts + legal and copyright issues.
The role and what we are looking for:
Legal Trustee with charity experience who can advise on contracts and legal / copyright issues for small international charity working in partnership with young people on programmes relating to the arts, media, education, training and development;
What we do:
Peace Child International is a small charity which, for 44 years, has trained and informed young people about issues that concern them such as the environment, human rights, conflict resolution, youth employment etc. It has then provided them with a platform to express their views and ideas about those issues through musicals, peer to peer mentorship training programmes, seminars, conferences, model citizen assemblies etc. We have worked closely with the United Nations and punch far above our weight.
What will you be doing?
You would be advising us on legal and copyright matters as well as offering us advice on our charitable status in relation to fundraising, planning and implementation of our programmes.
What we are looking for?
The candidate should have legal background and experience of working with charities. They should be interested in the arts and in encouraging young people to gain confidence, grow their skills and get involved in community, national and international issues. They should be enthusiastic and willing to help us develop contacts and assist towards the success of the projects.
What do you get?
Because we are a small organisation with a small team of trustees each person is centrally involved in key decisions. There is the opportunity to gain many different skills within the team. We know that our various programmes make a huge impact on many young people engaged in the programmes. Trustees are also encouraged to visit some of the events and witness this first hand. This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking to gain experience if they wish to become Trustees of larger charities in the future.
What do we get?
We rely on professional advice from our trustees to ensure that we operate within the terms of our Charitable status, and that we strictly observe current regulations in relation to copyright, data protection, child protection, safe-guarding etc. The Legal Trustee is the professional arbiter on all decisions in those fields – and others that may come up. We are a small team, which enables us to make decisions speedily. We hope to get someone who is youthful in spirit – and wants to help the rising generations to resolve those challenges successfully.
